Working Student | Medical Annotator & Validator
About kaiko
In cancer care, treatment decisions can take many days—but patients don’t have that time. One of the reasons for delays? Cancer patients' data is scattered across many places: doctor’s notes, medical imagery, genomics data. At kaiko, we are developing AI foundation models to bring this data together and integrate it into clinical workflows, enabling doctors to make faster, more effective treatments decisions.
We also collaborate closely with the leading Dutch cancer research institute (NKI) on multiple AI research projects and a joint clinical validation initiative. In 2025, we plan on expanding our partnerships to even more hospitals.
We raised significant long-term funding and have offices in Zurich and Amsterdam. Over the past year, our team has nearly doubled in size, now comprising 80+ people from 25 countries and we just got recognized as a Rising Innovator at the GenAI conference
About the role
We are looking for a working student who is excited to contribute to building high-performance AI models in the medical field.
You'll be responsible for helping us build trustworthy, high-quality datasets that serve as the foundation for training and evaluating medical AI systems. Your work will directly impact the development and validation of large language models (LLMs) designed to understand and support clinical decision-making. You will work closely with medical professionals, AI engineers, and data engineers.
You will be based in the Netherlands with the expectation to work remotely after the onboarding stage. The hourly rate for this role is set to EUR 20 gross per hour.
Some areas of responsibility
- You’ll support our anonymization efforts and validate performance of our AI models by annotating medical data
- You’ll perform manual medical summarization of clinical documents according to evolving specifications
- You’ll review and evaluate AI generated summaries for accuracy, completeness, and clinical relevance
- You’ll collaborate with the team to improve task definitions, edge case handling, and annotation consistency
If you are a Dutch-speaking medical student with a strong attention to detail, are excited about working hands-on with real clinical texts to improve AI models and want to help build safe and reliable technology for the healthcare system, we think you will love this job.
About you
- You are a master's student (or beyond) in the medical field with an affinity for technology
- You speak Dutch at a native level
- You are detail-oriented and take pride in producing accurate, high-quality work
- You’re comfortable working with evolving task guidelines and clinical ambiguity
- You are proactive and able to work independently, even when instructions aren’t exhaustive
- You are available for a minimum of 8 hour per week
Nice to have:
- Experience with medical records or referral letters
- Familiarity with annotation tools or structured data extraction
- Interest in medical AI or clinical NLP
We are excited to gather a broad range of perspectives in our team, as we believe it will help us build better products to support a broader set of people. If you’re excited about us but don’t fit every single qualification, we still encourage you to apply: we’ve had incredible team members join us who didn’t check every box!
