Senior UX designer
About kaiko
In cancer care, treatment decisions can take many days—but patients don’t have that time. One of the reasons for delays? Cancer patients' data is scattered across many places: doctor’s notes, medical imagery, genomics data. At kaiko, we are developing AI foundational models to bring this data together and integrate it into clinical workflows, enabling doctors to make faster, more effective treatments decisions.
We also collaborate closely with the leading Dutch cancer research institute (NKI) on multiple AI research projects and a joint clinical validation initiative. In 2025, we plan on expanding our partnerships to more hospitals.
We raised significant long-term funding and have offices in Zurich and Amsterdam. Over the past year, our team has nearly doubled in size, now comprising 70+ people from 25 countries.
About the role
We’re looking for a Senior UX Designer who can turn deep clinical and AI insights into intuitive, powerful user experiences. As we scale, you’ll drive end-to-end UX design, transforming clinician, researcher, and patient journeys into workflows that integrate seamlessly into real-world oncology settings.
This role is both senior and hands-on: we iterate often on our fast-developing product portfolio, so you’ll spend significant time prototyping, testing, and refining designs based on real user feedback. You’ll be expected to lead UX thinking across the company by setting the standard and executing at a high level.
Your work will shape our product portfolio and directly impact how healthcare professionals interact with AI, making it useful, trustworthy and indispensable.
Key responsibilities:
- Prototype and iterate wireframes to streamline complex medical workflows.
- Work closely with engineers, product managers, and clinical experts to shape AI-powered UX solutions that integrate seamlessly into real-world medical settings.
- Adapt and lead UX in a startup setting - that means doing a lot of the design yourself while also defining best-practice UX frameworks and design language over time.
- Work with our existing UX designer to form a dynamic and efficient team.
- Balance proactive work such as initiating ideation sessions with reactive work such as iterating on customer requirements in new product implementations.
- Utilize multiple tools to communicate your ideas - ranging from professional design software to deliver specifications to engineers to physical or online whiteboards to run ideation sessions.
You will be based in Amsterdam or Zürich, with the expectation of spending 50% or more of your time at the office.
About you
We’re looking for a designer who is excited by our mission and knows how to balance deep UX thinking with practical execution. You are ideally someone who:
- Has strong proficiency in wireframing and prototyping, with a demonstrated ability to simplify and streamline complex user flows.
- Brings 4-5+ years of UX or product design experience, ideally in healthcare, AI, assistant development, or software for users with high domain expertise such as fintech, legal tech, pharma, or manufacturing.
- Has a demonstrated ability to incorporate customer and stakeholder feedback into design iterations and understands the user-centered design process.
- Thrives in an environment where AI is evolving rapidly and can translate those advancements into excellent UX and adoption.
Why kaiko
At kaiko, we believe the best ideas come from collaboration, ownership and ambition. We’ve built a team of international experts where your work has direct impact. Here’s what we value:
- Ownership: You’ll have the autonomy to set your own goals, make critical decisions, and see the direct impact of your work.
- Collaboration: You’ll have to approach disagreement with curiosity, build on common ground and create solutions together.
- Ambition: You’ll be surrounded by people who set high standards for themselves and others, who see obstacles as opportunities, and who are relentless in their work to create better outcomes for patients.
In addition, we offer:
- An attractive and competitive salary, a good pension plan and 25 vacation days per year.
- Great offsites and team events to strengthen the team and celebrate successes together.
- A EUR 1000 learning and development budget to help you grow.
- Autonomy to do your work the way that works best for you, whether you have a kid or prefer early mornings.
- An annual commuting subsidy.
We are excited to gather a broad range of perspectives in our team, as we believe it will help us build better products to support a broader set of people. If you’re excited about us but don’t fit every single qualification, we still encourage you to apply: we’ve had incredible team members join us who didn’t check every box!
